New Publication to Help Memphis Bioworks Foundation Reach Broader Audience
MEMPHIS, Tennessee, May 24, 2006 - Contemporary Media Inc. and the Memphis Regional Chamber will launch Memphis Business Quarterly this year as a selling tool for Memphis. The magazine’s main focus will be on the city’s overall business community, but it will include a bi-annual supplement developed in conjunction with the Memphis Bioworks Foundation. The supplement will offer an in-depth look at Memphis’ bioscience industry.
Two years ago, in partnership with the Memphis Regional Chamber, the Memphis Bioworks Foundation launched the Memphis Bioworks Magazine to call attention to the progress of the bioscience industry in Memphis. It provided the scientific and investment communities with in-depth articles written with a high level of understanding of their needs.
Memphis Business Quarterly will build on the initial success of the Memphis Bioworks Magazine and expand upon its original vision and intent with a new, broader circulation publication paired with a Bioworks supplement twice a year.
The Memphis Bioworks Foundation will work with Contemporary Media and the Chamber to help spread bioscience news from Memphis to a larger audience. Dr. Steven J. Bares, executive director and president of the Memphis Bioworks Foundation, will play a senior editorial role in publishing the Bioworks supplement.
“This new publication allows us to expand the city’s bioscience visibility,” said Bares. “Our experience has shown that people locally and nationally are interested in the kind of comprehensive information found in previous issues of the Memphis Bioworks Magazine. We have many topics to cover in the areas of research, commercialization, product development, biologistics, entrepreneurship, and infrastructure.”
Contemporary Media estimates distribution of Memphis Business Quarterly at 33,500. The publication will be delivered with copies of Memphis magazine and will be sent to national site selectors, consultants and executives of each Fortune 1,000 company. Additional copies will be placed on Pinnacle Airlines jets and at premium Mid-South hotels. 2,000 will be sold at area news stands.
The Memphis Bioworks Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, was formed in early 2001 to establish the Memphis region as an internationally recognized center for biomedical technology through education, research, job training, and commercialization. Baptist Memorial Health Care donated its property in the Memphis Medical Center to the Foundation for the site of the UT-Baptist Research Park, which serves as the focal point of the city’s biomedical economic development.
