Greater Memphis Chamber Announces Its 2010 Board of Directors
The Greater Memphis Chamber announces the election of its 2010 Board of Directors and Officers. Newly elected Board members include: Calvin Anderson Vice President, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee; Dr. Steve Bares, President, Memphis Bioworks Foundation; Charles Blatteis Burch, Porter and Johnson; Doug Browne General Manager, Peabody Memphis Hotel; Mike Edwards President of the Mid-South Market, First Tennessee Bank; Julie Ellis Attorney, Butler Snow; Desi Franklin Shareholder, Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz; Bill Griffin Senior Vice President, Wright Medical; Carolyn Hardy CEO, Chism Hardy Enterprises; Doug King General Manager and Vice President, Core Spine, Medtronic; Richard Shadyac, Jr.. CEO, ALSAC/St. Jude; and Luke Yancy - President & CEO, Mid-South Minority Business Council.
The Chamber is fortunate to have a fully engaged and diverse Board, said John Moore, President & CEO of the Greater Memphis Chamber. We have several important economic development objectives to accomplish this year for our community, and I am confident that we have the type of talented leadership on our board to be successful.
Tom Schmitt, SVP of FedEx Solutions, has been elected to serve his second consecutive, two-year term as Chairman of the Board. "The Greater Memphis Chamber is our community's primary business engine, and it needs to be led by a top notch board of exceptional leaders. This board is such a board." Schmitt also serves as Chair of the MemphisED (Memphis Economic Development) initiative under the Memphis Fast Forward plan. This five-year plan, in its third year, is a comprehensive plan to advance Memphis and Shelby County through economic development, public safety, education and government efficiency.
The Chambers 44-member Board of Directors is comprised of the regions top business, civic and community leaders. These individuals represent over 2400 member organizations and businesses of the Chamber. The Chamber Board members serve to strengthen the regions economy and community assets.
