Infrastructure is a
Key to Job Growth
and Entrepreneurial Opportunity

The construction of incubator, laboratory and office space is critical to the success of the bioscience initiative. The UT-Baptist Research Park, under development by Memphis Bioworks Foundation, will provide 1.2 million square feet of state-of-the-art laboratory and office space. Baptist Memorial Health Care donated the land for the Research Park. This park, in the heart of the Memphis Medical Center District and adjacent to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, is a critical catalyst to workforce development in all areas of bioscience.

Currently under construction are the new Pharmacy School Building for the University of Tennessee and the Regional Biocontainment Lab. UTHSC was awarded nearly $18 million in federal funding from the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) for the construction of a biomedical and biodefense research training facility. This facility will focus on new drugs, vaccines, and diagnostics to protect the general population from infectious diseases and bioterrorism. It will be one of only 13 in the country and will open later this year. The new Pharmacy Building is a critical part of the University’s efforts to enhance its pharmacy program.

Already in existence in the park is the 20 South Dudley Building, headquarters for the Memphis Bioworks Foundation, Innova, InMotion and more than 10 startups.
