Leading Memphis' Transition to a 21st Century Economy

The Memphis Bioworks Foundation is a result of collaboration and a shared vision among public, private, academic and government entities dedicated to changing the Memphis bioscience landscape — creating business opportunities and jobs. Established in 2001 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3), the Foundation is leading initiatives to expand the community’s current bioscience niches and demonstrated areas of excellence.

The Foundation leverages the region’s strengths and identifies opportunities to establish Memphis as an internationally recognized center of excellence for research and commercialization in the biosciences. To accomplish its mission and to ensure that Memphis is all it can be, the Foundation focuses on three key areas that we consider critical to drive economic growth and expand job opportunities:
