AgBioworks Planting Seeds for the Future

Throughout West Tennessee this spring, farmers are planting a variety of alternative crops, thanks to a program coordinated by Memphis Bioworks Foundation and funded through a grant provided by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. This program, called the 25Farmer Network, is the first step towards creating a new supply chain for locally produced crops that can be made into a variety of products. The Foundation has recognized the fact that farmers must be at the foundation of building a viable AgBio industry in the region and are actively engaging them in the process.

The 25Farmer Network is just one initiative of the AgBioworks initiative launched by Memphis Bioworks. In partnership with BioDimensions, a local business development firm specializing in developing new agricultural crops and biobased products, AgBioworks seeks to capitalize on the unique and exciting attributes of the region — agricultural diversity, superior logistics, and transitional manufacturing — to develop a new localized supply chain from farm to factory.
