BioNotes
April Issue - Memphis Bioworks Foundation

BioNotes is a Quarterly Newsletter from the Memphis Bioworks Foundation. Our goal is to inform you of programs or initiatives at Memphis Bioworks that are making a difference in our community, and other items dealing with how bioscience is making Memphis a better place to live, build a career and make a positive contribution to the world around us. We hope you enjoy BioNotes. Please pass it on to others. If this has been forwarded to you by a friend or associate and you would like to begin receiving your own BioNotes, click here to sign up.

Welcome to BioNotes

At Memphis Bioworks Foundation, we have considered launching a newsletter for quite some time. There is more going on in the biosciences in Memphis today than there ever has been in the past, and this newsletter will serve as a regular vehicle to keep our donors, partners and the Memphis community up-to-date.  more »

Leading Memphis' Transition to a 21st Century Economy

The Memphis Bioworks Foundation is a result of collaboration and a shared vision among public, private, academic and government entities dedicated to changing the Memphis bioscience landscape — creating business opportunities and jobs. Infrastructure is a
Key to Job Growth
and Entrepreneurial Opportunity

The construction of incubator, laboratory and office space is critical to the success of the bioscience initiative. The UT-Baptist Research Park, under development by Memphis Bioworks Foundation, will provide 1.2 million square feet of state-of-the-art laboratory and office space. Baptist Memorial Health Care donated the land for the Research Park. This park, in the heart of the Memphis Medical Center District and adjacent to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, is a critical catalyst to workforce development in all areas of bioscience.  more »

The Cycle of Entrepreneurship

A key area of focus at Memphis Bioworks is entrepreneurship. Much of what we do as an organization from an infrastructure, education, investment and business standpoint eventually goes back to establishing the right environment for successful bioscience and technology entrepreneurship. This year, milestones were reached in filling some important holes in the Cycle of Entrepreneurship for the community — the launch of TECworks and the dedication of our new dedicated lab and office space at 20 South Dudley.  more »

AgBioworks Planting
Seeds for the Future

Throughout West Tennessee this spring, farmers are planting a variety of alternative crops, thanks to a program coordinated by Memphis Bioworks Foundation and funded through a grant provided by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. This program, called the 25Farmer Network, is the first step towards creating a new supply chain for locally produced crops that can be made into a variety of products. The Foundation has recognized the fact that farmers must be at the foundation of building a viable AgBio industry in the region and are actively engaging them in the process.
