Mission
"To establish the Memphis region as an International Bioscience Center for the development and commercialization of bio technologies."
Based on the successful bioscience niches currently found in Memphis, the work of the Memphis Bioworks® Foundation was launched in part based on information gained through a study by the Battelle Technology Partnership Practice that highlighted the strengths and opportunities the city has to accomplish this mission. Accomplishing our mission will have a direct and meaningful impact on the economic health of the city and the surrounding communities.
To accomplish the goals of the mission, the Memphis Bioworks Foundation is responsible for four key areas that we consider critical to drive the plan and the economic growth of the community.
- Program leadership. The Foundation is the community hub for strategic planning, awareness, brand development, marketing and communications, and overall direction of the initiative.
- Developing infrastructure. The Foundation is providing the groundwork for new facilities including incubator space, research and development sites, offices and other resources necessary for businesses, scientists and entrepreneurs to move forward with bioscience development and commercialization.
- Expand the workforce. The growth of the bioscience industry will require a skilled and knowledgeable workforce. By developing educational opportunities, collaborating with local universities and colleges, and by creating outreach initiatives, the positions can be filled and a direct economic impact can be felt within the community.
- Drive Entrepreneurship. New ideas, technologies and treatments created by aspiring scientists will be encouraged and supported by the Foundation.
