Communities around the world are attempting to create bioscience research parks and other bioscience initiatives to boost their economies. Memphis is one of those communities seeking to create a bioscience center of excellence. Yet Memphis has several key competitive advantages due to its existing business and research foundation. And, Memphis is taking unique approach to bringing all parties together for a common goal, a common mission and a common benefit. What makes Memphis unique is the leadership and vision of the Memphis Bioworks Foundation
A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Foundation is executing a strategic business plan that leverages the competitive strengths within the region while expanding the infrastructure, educational opportunities, and entrepreneur support needed to expand bioscience industries.
In Memphis, we are fortunate to have key competitive strengths and proven areas of leadership within the broad definition of bioscience in which we are focused. Specifically, Memphis and the Memphis Bioworks Foundation are building and investing in three critical areas of bioscience - biomedical, biologistics and bioagriculture.
Touching the entire Community
The vision for the Memphis bioscience center goes beyond the foundation of the new buildings, incubator space and new companies that will occupy laboratories. Memphis Bioworks Foundation is looking at the total picture of our community - the public leadership, the private initiatives, the quality of life, the quality of service, and the experience of the bioscience professional. The work of Memphis Bioworks Foundation will be felt in the Memphis Medical District, Memphis education, Memphis' place in global logistics and on the farms of the rich delta region.
Creating opportunities for entrepreneurs will impact employment, services and change the lives of people within the community. Providing educational experiences for students to gain greater knowledge and appreciation for the sciences will set a foundation for future success and hopefully an entrepreneurial spirit.
